The healing power of sound

Updated: Nov 9, 2022

I arrived at Archiestown Village Hall, as advised by my friend, suitably prepared for the cold: yoga mat, blanket, scarf, foot mittens to snuggle into and get hygge-like. Practicing sound healer, Emma from Holistic Soul Speyside, welcomed us in and, by right of early arrival, we bagged the best floorspace - nearest to the radiators that were only just starting to heat up.

Autumn chill withstanding, you come for a sound bath well-armed with cosiness for, as you lie, letting the waves of sound wash over you, your body temperature drops entering the trance like state.

We put on our eye masks and lay back for the healing.

Beginning with guided meditation to lead into the pure tones of the singing bowls, the sound becomes all consuming. Each chakra hums to a frequency matched by the bowls, from low tones to high before dual tones enter and a strange music carries your thoughts away. I felt something shift inside me and a sharp, sudden release of breath was followed by a wonderful feeling of peace. I don't know how long I drifted...

I left the village hall and walked out into beautiful sunlight, the village of Archiestown looking picturesque, the crisp air refreshing. I couldn't stop smiling. I felt retuned and in harmony with the world. And very grateful to Emma for the experience.
