Absolutely Positive

You are not alone in feeling the way you do. It may seem like it but you are not. To live is to endlessly change and adapt to whatever circumstances come your way and, while it may seem that other people navigate their path with more ease than yourself, the reality is that we are all the same. There are times when to adapt again just seems too exhausting or impossible: meeting the high expectations or needs of others, at the cost to our own health and wellbeing. It may feel that the weakness is ourselves, from earlier adaptations of childhood trauma or repeated responses to mistakes but what is true is that we all have the ability to heal ourselves and an unconscious drive to not only survive, but to thrive.

Reframing the situation, using positive psychology, can free ourselves from a tired, self-defeating mindset. The greatest illusion of all is to believe you are trapped or have no control over the situations you are facing. Instead of dwelling over and reinforcing negative mindsets and experiences, what if you looked at them as learning experiences that requires you to look to your strengths instead?

Thinking positively in hypnotherapy is about building upon your inherent resources and best qualities rather than repairing your worst. It can promote your wellbeing to consider what is good in a person’s life. It’s about the positive emotions you feel about your past, present and future, involving gratitude, contentment and hope. It’s about being engaged in those activities that fully absorb you that demonstrate your creativity or skills. It considers how you view your relationships with others and your connection with your family or friends and having the strength to avoid those that are toxic to you. The importance of having a purpose or meaning is essential to your sense of well-being as it is self-affirming, as are having accomplishments or successes to be proud about in your life.

With today’s focus on mental health and stress management, Positive Psychology is being propounded by life coaches and therapists to help people promote their personal strengths and this is what I believe hypnotism to be a tool for – unlocking the potential for people to heal themselves and to reinforce their strengths. Taking that first step in trusting healing trancework is an accomplishment to be proud of.
